LIVINGSTON – A woman was killed after the motorcycle operated by her husband was struck by a car, late Monday morning.  The accident happened on State Route 82 near the intersection of Bells Pond Rd. in the Columbia County Town of Livingston.

The investigation revealed that Richard Whitford, 70, from Dover Plains, was southbound on SR-82, when he slowed to attempt a turn onto Bells Pond Roadd. Once they slowed, the car struck the motorcycle from behind.  Both passengers on the motorcycle were ejected.

Richard was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he is listed in stable condition.

His wife, Edna, 62, a passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old Millerton man, sustained a minor injury and did not require treatment.

A State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. As of Monday evening, no charges had been filed.
