LAKE RONKONKOMA - Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the drowning death of a man who was found in Lake Ronkonkoma tonight.

Sammie Weiner, 40, was at Lake Ronkonkoma Suffolk County Park on Portion Road with his 9-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter when he went to retrieve a remote controlled boat that was disabled last night at 8:30 p.m. The boat was owned and operated by a stranger.

Weiner swam approximately 150-200 feet off shore when he subsequently went under water. A search and rescue effort took place and the Suffolk County Marine Dive Team found Weiner’s body at 5:10 p.m. tonight. Weiner’s body was found close to where he was last seen alive.

An examination will be conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of Weiner’s death.
