Serial burglar faces up to life

ALBANY - A man who admitted involvement in several crimes in Albany will spend a lot of time in prison.  Rubin Brewington, 50, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary in the second degree, a felonies.  Brewington faces 16½ years to Life for his involvement in several burglaries.

On July 25, 2011, Brewington and co-defendant John Grady approached a man in his driveway on an Albany street and proceeded to push him to the ground and put what appeared to be a gun to the back of his neck while threatening to shoot him and demanding his money.  After forcefully emptying the victims pockets the pair forced the victim through the back door of his home and threatened to kill his parents who were sleeping inside.  The pair then stole several items from the home.  The noise of the incident caused the victim’s father to wake up and the defendants fled the scene.  Albany Police responded to the call and were later able to apprehend the co-defendants after a foot chase ensued.  Brewington was found hiding in a dumpster on Central Avenue.  A BB gun was found nearby.

DNA was able to link BREWINGTON to other incidents, including break-ins that were reported in March, May, and June 2011 all in the City of Albany.

Brewington remains in custody until sentencing on August 3, 2012. Co-defendant Grady awaits a trial date to be set by the court.
