Pedestrian killed on Long Island

SMITHTOWN - Suffolk County Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian in Smithtown early Monday morning.

A vehicle heading west in the left lane of Route 25, just west of Morewood Road, in Smithtown struck Salvatore Prianti at 4:40 a.m.  Prianti, 87, of Smithtown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed as yet. 

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
