Woman sentenced to prison in fatal wrong-way crash

WHITE PLAINS – A woman who drove her car for over six miles on the New England Thruway in New York City and Westchester County, striking another vehicle head-on, killing a passenger, was sentenced Tuesday in Westchester County Court to three to nine years in state prison.

Tanisha Gomez, 26, of Ozone Park was driving northbound in the southbound lanes at 4:30 a.m. on July 24, 2011 when she struck the other vehicle, killing Reginald Lee.

Gomez had a blood alcohol content of .19, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

She pled guilty to all nine counts in the indictment against her charging her with three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of manslaughter, one count of vehicular assault, one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of DWI, and one count of reckless driving.
