HEMPSTEAD - Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 3:07 am in Hempstead.

According to detectives, the victim, Herzon Alvarado, 23, also known as Jose Gutierrez, of Hempstead, was in the vicinity of Main St. and West Columbia St. when he became involved in an altercation with an unidentified person. During the altercation the victim was stabbed in the torso, ran in front of 161 Main St. and collapsed to the ground. He was removed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by a staff physician at 3:41 am.
