Bus driver dies following crash; may have had medical issue

FRANKLINVILLE - State Police in Machias are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred Wednesday afternoon on Mt. Pleasant Avenue in the Village of Franklinville. A bus containing a driver and seven adult passengers veered off the roadway, struck a tree and entered the ditch.

The 50 year-old-male driver from Olean, whose name has not been released, was transported by ambulance to Olean General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.   Preliminary investigation revealed the driver possibly suffered an unknown illness immediately preceding the crash.

One of the passengers was also transported by ambulance to Olean General Hospital for a minor knee injury.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
