ALBANY - State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli office completed the following school district audits:

Broome Community College – Fleet Management (Broome County)
The college is paying approximately $17,000 less per year or $141,046 after 100,000 miles driven, by maintaining its current vehicle fleet rather than reimbursing employees for mileage. If the college chooses to maintain the vehicles longer than 100,000 miles, it will realize even greater savings, as long as maintenance costs do not escalate. The college can also realize an additional savings of $4,100 by discontinuing the use of some of the vehicles in its fleet.

Westbury Union Free School District – Medicaid Revenues (Nassau County)
The district lacks written policies and procedures to define the duties of individuals responsible for collecting student data and documentation, submitting and reconciling claims, and monitoring the Medicaid reimbursement process. The district did not claim a total of $606,178 in reimbursable costs, and therefore, did not realize revenues of $151,544 for IEP-related services, special transportation, and ongoing service coordination provided to Medicaid-eligible students in the 2008-09 fiscal year.
