Trailer loaded with batteries burns

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Air samples taken in a busy area of Route 211 just off the Route 17 ramps in the Town of Wallkill, near Middletown, after a fire on a truck full of batteries Tuesday.  The air tested safe.  after a truck trailer loaded with batteries caught fire and burned, sending billows of white smoke into the air.

Route 211 from Tower Drive to Burt Crawford Road was closed to traffic in both directions for much of the mid-day hours as fire and haz-mat crews worked the scene and the air quality was tested to make sure there was no pollution present.

Several fire departments were on the scene for hours along with Orange County Haz-Mat, State and Wallkill Town Police.
