Schumer completes another 62-county tour |
|||||
SCHENECTADY - With his visit to the Schenectady County Community College today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer completed his 62 County tour of New York for the twelfth year in a row – a feat that makes him the first New York state public official to visit every single county in New York every year he has been in office. Schumer highlighted some of the year’s biggest accomplishments including the passage of the bipartisan HIRE Act which provides tax cuts to businesses that hire unemployed NYers; the ground breaking at Taylor Biomass, a facility that will turn waste into renewable energy and create hundreds of Hudson Valley jobs in the process; securing billions of dollars in aid for struggling school districts and local governments, helping to stave off property tax hikes and keeping fire fighters and cops on the beat; the extension of legislation to provide middle-class families with a $2,500 college tuition tax credit; and ending the structural disenfranchisement of American soldiers voting overseas. Over the course of the year, Schumer made almost 300 visits to Upstate New York and Long Island. He visited the Capital Region 25 times; the Southern Tier 18 times; Western New York 32 times; the Hudson Valley 60 times; Long Island 75 times; the Rochester Finger Lakes Region 30 times; Central New York 36 times, and the North Country 14 times. |
