Flooding shuts down portion of Thruway, strong winds knock out power

MID-HUDSON/CATSKILLS – The New York State Thruway between exits 14 and 17 was shut down due to flooding Sunday morning. It was later reopened.

Rain swollen creeks overflowed their banks in areas as the heavy rains continued Sunday morning.

A state of emergency was declared in the Village of Washingtonville as the Moodna Creek overflowed its borders and residents in the Patricia Lane area off Route 94 were evacuated.
Residents on Able Noble Drive in Chester had to be evacuated by fire department boat because of flooding.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, there have been no reports of flooding within Sullivan County. However, the E911 Center has handled numerous calls for power issues including down wires, transformers on fire, broken poles, down trees and limbs blocking roadways throughout Saturday night.

There are some local power outages and loss of telephone service in the towns of Lumberland and Highland. All power companies are working to clear lines and restore service including Frontier Telephone.

Between two and four inches of rain are expected to fall by the time this latest storm is over and with melting snow, flooding is expected in areas of the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions.
