Upstate man pleads guilty to killing stepfather

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY - Daniel Hyers, 21, of South Dayton, entered a plea of guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree for the shooting death of his step-father on September 9, 2008.   Hyers will receive the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison plus 5 years post release supervision when he is sentenced on March 29, 2010.

District Attorney David W. Foley said “ I wish to express my gratitude to everyone who has been involved in this case including  Judge John T. Ward and certainly the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, particularly Investigators Jim Hanson. It has been a very difficult case factually and legally and I am pleased that the result is that which everyone has agreed to be the best disposition.”
