Cell phone for soldiers drop off in western NY |

WARSAW - With more than 150,000 troops serving overseas, away from their families, Assemblyman Dan Burling (R,C,I-Warsaw) and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” are calling on all local residents to support those in the armed forces by donating cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 cell phones this year to help keep troops connected with their families. “As we enter the holiday season, it is essential to remember those who may be celebrating far from their loved ones,” said Burling, a Vietnam Veteran. “Our brave men and women sacrifice much to defend our freedoms, this is one small way for everyone to give back.” Local residents can support the collection drive by donating their cell phones at Assemblyman Burling’s district office, located at 2371 North Main Street in Warsaw. The office can be reached at (585) 786-0180. The donated phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. Approximately half of the phones ReCellular processes are reconditioned and resold to wholesale companies in over 40 countries around the world.
