Kings Park man indicted for DWI in fatal August crash

HAUPPAUGE - A Kings Park man arrested in August for driving while intoxicated has pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter, assault and other crimes.

Rodrigo Ramirez-Vega, 25, of 15 Dawson Avenue, Kings Park, struck a van driven by Kenneth Lesser, 58, of Commack, at the intersection of Harned Road and New Highway in Commack on August 18.  Lesser died of his injuries at the scene.

Investigators said Vega was traveling southbound on Harned Road at a high rate of speed and ran a red light.

Vega pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol charges.  Judge William Condon remanded Vega to the county jail.
