Intergenerational Fall Cleanup this weekend in Oneida County |
|||||
UTICA - County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. announced that the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office of the Aging and Continuing Care have once again joined forces uniting area youth with the elderly to deliver general yard cleanup services through its Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up scheduled for the weekend of October 24th and October 25th. The initiative, which coincides with Make A Difference Day, is a collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office of the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts, youth organizations and merchants. “This past April, 200 youth volunteers delivered general yard cleanup services; raking and bagging leaves, sweeping porches, sidewalks and driveways and bringing light refuse to the curb for pickup to 60 senior locations county-wide during the inaugural Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up,” Picente said. “Building off the momentum of that successful initiative while being aware of the real need for these services to be delivered, the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office of the Aging and Continuing Care organized the Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up. Both the Intergenerational Spring and Fall Clean-Ups will be annual events.” The cleanup services will be delivered between the hours of 10am and 2pm each day. The goal will be to deliver as many services as possible, depending on the number of volunteers and the number of volunteers in each specific area. The 2010 Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday April 24th and Sunday April 25th and the 2010 Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday October 23rd and Sunday October 24th. Any youth, youth organization or clubs interested in volunteering please contact the Oneida County Youth Bureau at 798-5027. Any senior interested in applying for either of the 2010 initiatives please contact the Oneida County Office of the Aging and Continuing Care at 798-5456. |
