Trooper shoots, kills man in Town of Mexico

TOWN OF MEXICO - State Police are investigating a trooper involved shooting that occurred at about 11 p.m. on August 21.

The investigation thus far has revealed that Trooper Paul Darmody-Latham, a five year veteran stationed at State Police at the Hastings barracks, responded to a suspicious person complaint on State Route 69 near Lincoln Road in the Town of Mexico in Oswego County.

Upon his arrival at this location, Trooper Darmody-Latham observed Joshua Davies, 27, of Mexico, New York standing on the roadside.  As Trooper Darmody-Latham pulled his patrol vehicle to the side of the road, Davies aggressively approached the patrol vehicle brandishing a knife. Davies repeatedly threatened Trooper Darmody-Latham, both verbally and with the knife, and was told several times by the trooper to drop the knife. Davies ignored the commands to drop the knife and continued to approach the trooper. The officer drew is sidearm and fired three rounds, killing Davies.
