Sentencing for gang member involved in shooting outside Coram convenience store

RIVERHEAD - An alleged member of the Bloods street gang will spend 9½ years in prison for shooting two men in the legs outside a Coram 7-11 last year.  The two victims suffered non-threatening injuries.

Elija Whitty, 19, was arrested by Suffolk detectives and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force at a relative’s home in West Babylon five days after the October 8 shooting.   

Whitty was convicted of attempted second degree murder, assault, and weapons charges.  He was sentenced in Suffolk County court in Riverhead.
