AUBURN – Just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, Auburn Police K9 Officer Andrew Kalet was on routine patrol in the area of Rock Avenue when he attempted to stop and talk with a group of suspicious individuals in the area. As he approached the individuals they took off running from him. The individuals were quickly located in the area of State and Perrine streets where an investigation was conducted into their suspicious activities. During the investigation it was discovered that two of the individuals were in possession of property that they could not explain where it came from. One of the items in question was a mobile GPS unit. When the investigating officers looked into the GPS unit’s recent activity a Pulaski Street address was identified as the possible owner location. Officers went to the residence and alerted the resident who confirmed that his vehicle had in fact been entered and his GPS unit was stolen from the vehicle. Officers conducted a canvas of nearby residences in the area and did find at least one other vehicle that’s door was left ajar and dome light illuminated but the owner of the vehicle could not be located to determine if any property was stolen from the vehicle. Police recovered several other electronic devices from the two defendants and are holding the items as evidence until the rightful owners can be identified. The Auburn Police Department is requesting anyone living in the Pulaski and State Street area discovering property missing from their vehicle to file a report with the Police Department and possibly identify your property from the numerous items that were seized from the defendants. You can contact the Police Department at 315-253-3235. Arrested were a Union Springs resident and an Auburn resident, both 17. They were both charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the 5th degree, a class A misdemeanor. Both names are being withheld due to possible youthful offender adjudication in future court proceedings. |
