Riverhead woman sentenced for fast food robberies

RIVERHEAD - A Riverhead woman will spend five years in prison for robbing two fast food restaurants and trying to rob a third last summer.

Lorraine Gray, 45, of Lewis Street, attempted to rob the McDonalds, located at 769 Montauk Highway, East Patchogue on June 19, 2008 and robbed the Taco Bell and the Wendy’s restaurant located on Route 112.

During the attempted robbery of McDonalds, Gray grabbed the manager by the throat and threatened her with a screwdriver while demanding money. Another employee struck Gray with a mop handle and Gray fled, dropping the money on the floor.  She was apprehended a short time later by Fifth Precinct police officers who spotted a vehicle that matched the description given by employees.

Gray pled guilty to attempted robbery first degree and two counts of robbery first degree.  Judge James Hudson sentenced the defendant to five years in state prison and 2 ½ years post release supervision.

The district attorney’s office recommended 12 years incarceration.
