Ronkonkoma man found guilty of second degree murder

RIVERDALE - A Suffolk County jury has convicted Frederick Hollman, 22, of second-degree murder in the June 2008 stabbing death of Thomas Garafolo.

Hollman and codefendant Joshua Lopez, of Coram, drove Garafolo, 52, of Quogue, to a rural section of Granny Road in Medford and attacked him.  Hollman used a rope to restrain the 52-year-old Garafolo while Lopez allegedly stabbed the victim 22 times.

Before dying from his wounds at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, Garafolo identified Hollman “and another guy” as his attackers, detectives said.

District Attorney Thomas Spota said Hollman, of Ronkonkoma, faces a prison term of 25 years to life when he is sentenced June 17.  Jury selection for Lopez’ murder trial is scheduled to begin June 2.
