Sullivan County has first swine flu case

MONTICELLO – Sullivan County has its first confirmed case of swine flu.  The state Health Department notified County Manager David Fanslau about the case Monday night. There is a second probable case, officials said.

The sick woman is a resident of Ferndale in the Town of Liberty and is an employee of New Hope Community in Fallsburg.   The second woman is also a New Hope employee whose doctor has started her on a course of Tamiflu.

The infected staff member went to a Mets game in New York City on Sunday, May 10. She first experienced symptoms on Wednesday, May 13. The woman was treated at Crystal Run Healthcare on May 13.

As soon as a possible diagnosis was determined last week, New Hope began a course of Tamiflu for the residents of residential home where the infected person worked. All residents are being monitored.

Tamiflu was also made available to staff members.
