Alleged robber indicted in attack on elderly woman

RIVERDALE - A Farmingville man who threatened a 72-year-old woman and robbed her of $2 pleaded not guilty to a six count indictment Friday in Suffolk County Court.

Suffolk police said during the robbery on May 3 in the K-Mart parking lot in Farmingville, Ryan Mercorella displayed what appeared to be a handgun and said “If you don’t give me something I’ll have to shoot you”.

Mercorella is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of fourth degree grand larceny, second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The grand larceny charges in the indictment are related to Mercorella’s alleged taking of a pocketbook containing a half-dozen credit cards from a woman in the Farmingville Starbucks about an hour after robbing the elderly woman in the parking lot.

When Mercorella was arrested during a traffic stop on Overlook Drive in Farmingville on May 4 for driving without a license, a plastic bag containing white pills fell from his left pants leg.  Mercorella did not have a prescription for the pills identified as Xanax.
