US Postal worker arrested for alleged misappropriation of funds

SYRACUSE – Post Service worker Richard Matt has been arrested and charged with misappropriation of postal funds, federal officials announced.

Matt, 47, of Parish, N.Y. is charged by complaint with taking a small amount of Postal Service money for his own use during his employment with the United States Postal Service.

The investigation of Matt began in March 2007, when special agents of the Office of Investigations of the Office of the Inspector General for the United States Postal Service began monitoring records from the Carousel Center Postal Station due to recurrent shortages at that location.

If convicted of the Misappropriation of Postal Funds charge, Matt faces a term of imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to $100,000.
