Pilot dead in small plane crash

EATON – State Police continue to investigate the crash of a single-engine plane that went down in a wooded area west of Wescott Road in the Town of Eaton in Madison County and claimed the life of the pilot. His identity has not yet been determined.

The crash occurred Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a small plane down in a wooded area just west of Wescott Road, in the Town of Eaton, Madison County.  
 
The small aircraft is believed to have left Norwich, NY at approximately 4:30 p.m. The wreckage was discovered by the property owner who came upon it in a heavily wooded area some one to two miles from the road.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation along with the Forensic Identification Unit from Troop D in Oneida and the Federal Aviation Administration are on-scene and will continue to investigate the crash.
