Local drug court celebrates ‘National Drug Court Month’

ELIZABETHTOWN – In celebration of National Drug Court Month, the Essex County Drug Court will hold a graduation ceremony on May 1 at 10 a.m. at the Essex County Court House in Elizabethtown.

The local drug court will graduate two participants, adding to the 20 graduates of the program since its inception in 2004, marking its five years of service.  The ceremony marks the completion of the two students’ intensive 14 month program of comprehensive drug and alcohol treatment, close supervision and full accountability.

Nationally more than 70 percent of drug court participants have successfully completed the program or remain as active participants, and the cost of drug court programs are significantly less that the cost of incarceration in the traditional court system.
