Retired NYPD officer wounds man before killing himself

North Babylon – Suffolk County Police are investigating an incident in which a retired New York City Police officer shot a man before killing himself in North Babylon on Saturday.

Suffolk Police responded to a call reporting a man had shot himself at 80 Governor Avenue. When officers arrived, they found retired NYPD Officer Cecil Ramsay, 51, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just before Ramsay shot himself, he fired several shots at a car with Ramsay’s wife, Dady Belfort, and her passenger, Edwin Chittick, inside.

Chittick was shot once in the hand. Belfort was unharmed. Belfort drove Chittick to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Both Belfort and Chittick are active NYPD officers.
