New Suffolk County consumer affairs commissioner named

HAUPPAUGE – The Suffolk Legislature has confirmed Denis McElligott, of Smithtown, as commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs.

McElligott joins Suffolk government with nearly 10 years experience as an assistant New York State attorney general and was in charge of Suffolk’s regional office. In that role, he supervised attorneys involved in representing the state, its agencies and employees in state and federal court. He also conducted public outreach regarding consumer issues and rights.

Prior to joining the Attorney General’s office in 1999, McElligott was in private practice.
