Fire destroys two vehicles

NICHOLS - Troopers from the Owego barracks investigated a report of a car fire at the Nichols Elementary School.

Investigation revealed that Amy Payne, 30, of Barton, parked her vehicle in the parking lot and went into the gymnasium. While inside, her vehicle caught fire spreading to a car owned by Scott Rockwell, 31, of Smithboro, that was parked next to it.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the fire. A third vehicle owned by David Lounsbury, 44, Smithboro, received heat damage from the blaze.

The Nichols Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Tioga Center Fire Investigation. The investigation into the fire revealed no signs of arson.
