Arrest for theft from North Amityville Volunteer Benevolent Association

COPIAGUE - A Copiague woman is charged with stealing funds from the North Amityville Volunteer Firemen’s Exempt and Benevolent Association.

As president and treasurer of the association, Yvette Miller, 45, is alleged to have written unauthorized checks to herself and obtaining two unauthorized credit and debit cards.

Evidence collected by the district attorney’s offices indicates Miller used the cards to pay personal expenses for clothes and food. She also allegedly withdrew cash from ATM machines including, on two occasions, money withdrawals from ATM machines in Atlantic City casinos.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said the investigation thus far has found over $100,000 stolen; approximately $55,000 in ATM or debit card expenditures and over $14,000 in Association checks that Miller allegedly made payable to herself.

Miller pled not guilty to one count of second degree grand larceny at her arraignment in district court and bail was set at $10,000.
