Man arrested for stealing West Islip man’s identity

STATEN ISLAND – Suffolk County Police Tuesday arrested an unemployed mortgage broker for stealing a West Islip man’s personal information that he used to open a credit card account in the victim’s name and charged more than $10,000.

Andrew Scudiero, 47, of Whitestone Queens, was arrested near Richmond County Criminal Court Tuesday morning where he was scheduled to appear on unrelated identity theft charges in Staten Island from an August 4 arrest by New York City Police.

After a separate investigation, Suffolk County Police determined Scudiero used the West Islip man’s personal information in April to apply for an Advanta credit card. Once in possession of the card, Scudiero obtained cash advances by using a courtesy check issued on the card and ATM withdrawals in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

He was charged with identity theft in the first degree.
