Commission on MTA Financing to hold public hearings |
||||
ALBANY - Governor David Paterson Wednesday announced that the 13-member Commission on Metropolitan Transportation Authority Financing, chaired by former MTA Chairman Richard Ravitch, will hold three public hearings later this month. The hearings will help inform the Commission members as they prepare the Commission’s final report, to be delivered to the Governor and Legislative Leaders by December 5. The hearings are open to the public, but only invited speakers will address the Commission. Anyone not addressing the Commission at the hearings is invited to submit written testimony by regular mail or email Ravitch_Commission@chamber.state.ny.us or Ravitch Commission, 633 Third Avenue, 38th Floor, New York, NY 10017). The Commission is charged with recommending strategies to fund MTA capital projects and operating needs over the next ten years, a period when the Authority will be under unprecedented financial pressure as it expands its system and rebuild its core infrastructure to provide the additional capacity needed to allow the region to grow. Governor Paterson announced in April that Richard Ravitch would head the Commission created after the failure of the congestion pricing proposal, which would have provided an additional revenue stream to the MTA. The 13 Commission members, experts in finance and transportation, were announced in June. Wednesday, September 24th |
