Senate leader has eye surgery

ALBANY - New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos had successful surgery Thursday morning to have a cataract in his left eye removed and a corrective lens implanted, and is completing his recovery at home.  The surgery was performed by Dr. Stanley Berke of Lynbrook and was administered in Carle Place, Nassau County.

At no time during the operation was Senator Skelos sedated, and with Governor Paterson in Washington, D.C., he continued to serve as Senate Majority Leader, Acting Lieutenant Governor and Acting Governor.

In the future, the Senator will have a similar procedure performed onhis right eye.   However, no additional surgery is scheduled at this time.

Senator Skelos has been working from home most of the afternoon and will resume his full schedule Friday.
