SCIPIO - Sheriff David Gould reports the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a one car fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred early Thursday morning on NYS Rt. 34B near Manchester Rd. in the Town of Scipio.

The victim was identified as Katherine Gehring, 44, of Scipio, NY, formerly of Auburn.

At 4:14 a.m. this date a minivan was discovered off of the roadway by a passing motorist who called 911. The vehicle had been traveling northbound on Rt. 34B and left the east side of the roadway overturning several times ejecting the operator.  The operator was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The actual time of the accident is unknown at this time.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was alone in the vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Scipio and Poplar Ridge Fire Departments along with Southern Cayuga Ambulance.
