Oneida Nation names Carmen senior VP/chief legal officer

ONEIDA NATION HOMELANDS - Peter Carmen, who has served as the Oneida Indian Nation’s general counsel since 2005, has been named senior vice president and chief legal officer for the Nation’s administration and business enterprises, including Turning Stone Resort and Casino, where he will serve as general manager.

As senior vice president, Carmen will oversee the management and performance of all the Nation’s business and administrative operations.

Carmen graduated with honors from Brandeis University in 1988 and the Syracuse University College of Law in 1991, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Syracuse Law Review and Order of the Coif.  He served a judicial clerkship with Chief Judge Neal McCurn of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, then joined a law firm where he later become a partner.

Carmen is secretary of the Board of Trustees of the NDNY Federal Court Bar Association, past president of Syracuse University’s Law Alumni Association, a past officer of the Onondaga County Bar Association, past president of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse and past president of the Arc of Onondaga Foundation.  In 1999, he was named to Syracuse’s “40 Under 40” list of most influential business and community leaders under 40 years old.

Carmen is a graduate of Jamesville-Dewitt High School.  He lives in Syracuse with his wife and two children.
