Woman injured in arson, husband commits suicide

WESTHAMPTON BEACH – The Suffolk County Police Department Homicide and Arson squads are investigating an incident in Westhampton that left a woman severely burned in a house fire Saturday morning. Her husband committed suicide.

Westhampton Beacon Police officers were on patrol when they spotted smoke coming from a home at 64 Seafield Lane at about 7:30 p.m.

The Westhampton Fire Department arrived and removed Lacyna Pawlak, 54, from the building.

She was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital Medical Center with a severe skull fracture and several burns.

Her husband, Ryszard Pawlak, 48, was discovered in the garage on the property. He had committed suicide, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
