TOWN OF LEDYARD - The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one person in connection with a house fire that occurred at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at 923 Poplar Ridge Rd. in the Town of Ledyard.

Fire departments from Aurora, King Ferry, Scipio, Poplar Ridge, Long Hill and Aurelius responded along with Cayuga County Emergency Management. Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the scene Friday evening along with members of the Cayuga County Fire Investigation Team and determined at that time that the circumstances surrounding the fire were suspicious.  Assistance was requested from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention who sent two N.Y.

State fire investigators including a K-9 unit to the scene early Saturday morning. By Saturday evening all accidental causes for the fire were excluded and the investigation along with physical evidence recovered at the scene indicated the fire was incendiary.

Charged is Chad Towsley, 31, of 923 Poplar Ridge Rd. Aurora, N.Y. He was charged with arson in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and criminal mischief in the second degree, all felonies.
