Two charged with robbing supermarket

HAUPPAUGE – Suffolk County Police have arrested two men for taking baby formula from a Hauppauge Waldbaum’s supermarket.

Nicholas Savino, 24, of Centereach entered the store on Veterans Memorial Highway Friday morning and began to fill his jacket and a hand-held basket with baby formula. He left the storm without paying.

When he was approached outside by employees, he threatened them with a knife.

Savino and a friend, Joseph Chiarelli, 31, of Centereach, drove off. Police spotted their car in Commack and arrested them on charges of first-degree robbery.
