Albany man faces life after plea in drug case |

ALBANY - Mark Lewis, 28, of Albany, pled guilty to Count 6 of federal Indictment charging him with Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine. Lewis admitted to possessing with intent to distribute more than 500 but less than 1500 grams of crack cocaine (cocaine base), a Schedule II controlled substance, within the Northern District of New York. Lewis is the 25th defendant to plead guilty arising out of a federal indictment which charged members of the Albany based Jungle Junkie gang and their associates with federal RICO violations. In his plea agreement, Lewis admitted to engaging in a short police vehicle chase, running from his vehicle, and discarding bags containing crack cocaine, (cocaine base) as he ran. The three bags discarded by Lewis contained approximately 20 ounces of crack cocaine. At his sentencing, which is scheduled for September 3, Lewis faces a maximum of Life imprisonment, supervised release for Life, and a fine up to $4,000,000. |
