Syracuse drug dealers plead guilty |

SYRACUSE - Two prominent drug dealers from the City of Syracuse's East Side have pled guilty to various charges. In U.S. District Court earlier today Anthony Mitchell, 32, and Keith Moody, 23, both pled guilty to an Indictment charging them with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base (crack), in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846. As part for their pleas, both Mitchell and Moody admitted to distributing between 1.5 and 4.5 kilos of crack cocaine during their year long conspiracy. The street value of that amount of crack is between $200,000 and $600,000. The two also admitted that Mitchell obtained the crack cocaine from others and he and Moody would sell it in ounce-sized and smaller quantities. Moody and Mitchell would often times deal crack in the presence of each other. Other times, Mitchell would give Moody crack to sell, and then Moody would return a portion of the proceeds to Mitchell. During the course of this conspiracy, they made several sales of crack cocaine to informants working with law enforcement authorities. Together, the controlled buys amounted to more than 4 ounces of crack cocaine. This crack conspiracy generated large quantities of cash for both Moody and Mitchell, which they kept on their person, in their homes and also secreted at Mitchell's mother's home in Syracuse. On April 4, 2007, Moody was found to have stored, among other things, approximately 92 grams of crack, drug packaging paraphernalia, and a digital scale at a residence he sometimes shared with his girlfriend in Dewitt, New York. On that same date, Moody was also found to be in possession of $5,590. On that same date, agents found $58,660 in U.S. currency, some of which included buy money from informant buys from Moody, at Mitchell's mother's residence in Syracuse, New York. At sentencing in September, Moody and Mitchell each face a minimum of ten years and a maximum of life imprisonment. They also face at least 5 years of supervision following any period of incarceration, and up to a $4,000,000 fine. |
