$4 million announced for new Broome County Nursing Home

File may take time to start streaming on slower Internet connections

BINGHAMTON – State Senator Thomas Libous and Broome county Executive Barbara Fiala Tuesday announced the initial development of the county’s new nursing home can begin with $4 million Libous secured as part of the 2008-2009 state budget.

That money will fund the remediation and demolition of buildings formerly used by the Greater Binghamton Health Center –formerly the Binghamton Psychiatric Center – in order to clear the land for a new nursing home.

In 2006, the Berger Commission recommended that Broome County build a new facility.

Plans call for construction of a modern pod style facility to resemble local neighborhoods and communities.
