Five charged with interfering with railroad and criminal mischief

File may take time to start streaming on slower Internet connections

ROCHESTER - The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday announced the arrests of Michael Ciaramaglia, of Rochelle Drive, Riga; Joseph Neerbasch, of Still Moon Crescent, Chili; Jordan Leipold, of Privet Way, Rochester; Joseph Relyea, of Norway Spruce, Chili; and Aaron Spencer, of Beaver Road, Rochester, all 17 years of age.

They were all charged with one count of Interfering with a Railroad and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, both felonies.

On Monday, March 25, around 5:50 p.m., deputies responded to the CSX railroad tracks in the area of 3400 Chili Avenue in Chili.

A westbound CSX train struck a large three-feet wide rock that had been placed on the railroad tracks. The CSX engineer reported that the two engines sustained substantial damage and that the train was disabled. The two-mile long train was blocking Chili Avenue and Old Chili Scottsville Road near Memorial Park. The train did not derail.

Deputy Mathew Mackenzie was responding to the call when he noticed five suspicious males walking from the direction of the railroad crossing towards a McDonalds on Chili Avenue. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were implicated in the vandalism.

The five suspects were arraigned in Chili Town Court and released on their own recognizance.
