Burling says he won’t run for Congress

UTICA – Assemblyman Daniel Burling Monday said he had given thought to running for the Congressional seat being vacated by the retiring Tom Reynolds, but will, instead, seek re-election.

“Given my history of public service at the county and state level, my military experience as a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, and my success as a small businessman and pharmacist, I felt I was the most qualified candidate to understand and address our nation’s economy, health care, and military issues,” he said in a prepared statement. “However, it is my decision with the respected counsel of my wife, family, and party leadership to seek re-election as the Assemblyman for the 147th Assembly District.”

Burling said he has had years of experience understanding the needs of local government and the needs and concerns of the people in the rural district. “I am well positioned in seniority as a member of the Rules, Ways and Means Committees and as a Republican Conference leader to continue the fight in Albany for my district.”
