SMITHTOWN – Police have arrested a dentist for inhaling laughing gas for non-medical reasons.

A patient of Dr. Norman Rubin, 45, of Shirley, found the dentist in apparent distress at his office at 50 Karl Avenue in Smithtown.

Suffolk county Police and EMTs learned that Ruben has been inhaling the anesthetic Nitrous Oxide, commonly known as laughing gas.

He was treated by an EMT and administered first aid.

Upon being medically cleared, Rubin was arrested and charged with inhalation of hazardous inhalants, a misdemeanor.

He was released on bail.
