Inmate death at Erie County Jail

File may take time to start streaming on slower Internet connections

ORCHARD PARK – Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard Wednesday announced the death of a 35-year-old male inmate at the Erie County correctional Facility in Alden.

The inmate was found warm to the touch Wednesday, but not breathing, at around 6 a.m.

Deputies administered CPR, an AED was retrieved and a correctional facility nurse arrived to continue CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man, whom police did not identify, was pronounced dead some 40 minutes later.

An autopsy and toxicology tests will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. No foul play or suicide attempt is suspected, Howard said.
