Columbia County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build to hold fundraising brunch

File may take time to start streaming on slower Internet connections

CHATHAM – The Columbia County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build project invites the community to help them build affordable housing by attending its next fundraiser, Brunch at The Blue Plate, on Sunday, March 30.

The brunch runs continuously from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and features the Blue Plate’s famous brunch buffet, as well as live music by The Bennington Wind Trio and raffles for home design services and home décor. The Blue Plate is located at 1 Kinderhook Street (Chatham Circle) in Chatham village.

The local Habitat affiliate, formed in 1997, has completed projects in Chatham, Valatie and Hudson. This summer they hope to complete two more homes on a site on Mill Street, Hudson, donated by the city.  One of the homes will be done as a Women Build project, the first in this area.

Women Builds encourage women who may be intimidated by traditional builds or who may not have pictured themselves as “construction workers” to participate in Habitat. In the process, they help their community while learning practical and leadership skills. Women manage the build, handling everything from fundraising to actual construction.
