||
Syracuse - United States Attorney Glenn Suddaby announced Wednesday that David VanDeusen, 56, of Tully, New York, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Syracuse, New York to serve 18 months imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release in connection with his plea of guilty to defrauding the Federal Worker's Compensation system. As part of sentence VanDeusen is required to pay restitution to the United States Postal Service in the amount of $392,863.76 and a special assessment of $100 to the court. He was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service and the United States Bureau of Prisons. On August 13, 2007 VanDeusen pled guilty and admitted that he had made false written statements in connection with his worker's compensation award in May of 2006. VanDeusen falsely advised the federal Office of Worker's Compensation Program that he was unable to work and was not working. In fact, VanDeusen was actively engaged in the operation of three businesses, "Double D Auto Sales," "Super Seal of Central New York," and "Affordable Sign Company," all of which do business in the Syracuse area. VanDeusen had been on federal Worker's Compensation relating to his job as a mail handler at the United States Postal Service in Syracuse since 1988. |
