Washington -- Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) and City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced that the City of Buffalo Fire Department has been awarded $58,730 in Homeland Security funding in the fifteenth round of Fire Prevention and Safety grants for fiscal year 2006.

“These resources play an important role in safeguarding the community and the dedicated first responders who work to protect and serve this city,” said Higgins.

“The Buffalo Fire Department will utilize this federal grant to continue its ongoing effort to improve and upgrade equipment and technology throughout the Department, which will benefit all residents of Buffalo,"   said Brown.

The City intends to use the funding for technology upgrades to the Fire Investigation Bureau; surveillance cameras for “in the field” fire investigations; home safety literature for outreach at city events; and smoke detectors and carbon monoxide for distribution to residents.
