Asbestos abatement violation |

The United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, announced a guilty plea by Mario (Mike) Rolla, 76, of Hubberston, MA, for illegal asbestos removal and disposal activities. Rolla admitted to conspiring with others to violate the Clean Air Act before United States District Judge David Hurd in Utica, NY. He faces a maximum fine of $250,000 fine and up to five years of imprisonment when he is sentenced on July 13, 2007. In March or April of 2005, Rolla hired and conspired with other individuals to remove friable asbestos (a form easily released into the air) from the GEM Industries, Inc. manufacturing plant in Gardner, MA without complying with safety or environmental laws relating to their stripping, bagging, removal, and disposal activities. |
