||
Governor George Pataki has joined Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Grand Central Partnership Chairman Peter Kalikow and the world famous Radio City Rockettes at Grand Central Terminal to unveil the latest restoration of the terminal, kick off the annual Grand Central Sky Ceiling holiday laser light show and remind New Yorkers about the MTA Holiday Bonus Program which began this week on Thanksgiving Day and runs through January 2, 2006. After a two-year restoration and cleaning, the tarps and scaffolding that have covered Grand Central Terminal have come down, revealing a gleaming white façade on this iconic New York City landmark. The $21 million cleaning an restoration of the roof and the south and west sides was completed as part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's 2000-2004 Capital Program. The east façade is now being cleaned and restored at a cost of $6 million under the recently approved 2005-2009 MTA Capital Program. The restoration work will be highlighted as the façade is lit red for the first time during the holiday season. The Grand Central Ceiling will also feature its annual holiday laser light show that began this week. |
