The State University of New York and Research Foundation for SUNY (RF) today announced the RF Board of Directors selection of Dr. Jeffrey M. Cheek as president of the RF. Dr. Cheek is the current associate vice chancellor for research administration at North Carolina State University.
In this position, Dr. Cheek will be responsible for ensuring that all RF services provided to SUNY campuses are of the highest quality and consistent with national best practices. This will include: ongoing improvement in sponsored programs administration and technology; ensuring that technology commercialization—supporting SUNY’s many faculty discoveries and start-ups—aligns with campus needs and expectations; continuous improvement to the risk management and control systems in compliance with federal, state, RF, and sponsor specific policies and procedures; and working in partnership with SUNY leadership to support SUNY’s overarching research goals.
“Dr. Cheek comes to the RF with nearly 20 years of senior experience in research administration, making him an ideal partner for SUNY as we continue to build a system-wide research portfolio that answers society’s highest needs and greatest challenges,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “I am confident that Dr. Cheek is the right leader at precisely the right time for the RF, and I look forward to working with him.”
Dr. Cheek said, “I want to thank the RF Board of Directors, Chancellor Zimpher and Provost Cartwright for the opportunity to serve as President of the Research Foundation for SUNY. I am honored to have the chance to support SUNY’s research priorities and faculty scholars across the system.”
Dr. Cheek’s appointment is effective June 6, 2016 at an annual salary of $275,000.
